Can you let us know a sentence or two about yourself.
I’m a young mum of two, Indiana and Ashton, a FIFO wife and a Neonatal Nurse at FMC. There’s a chance you’ve seen me in class either very rarely on my own or with one or both kids in tow trying to join in on the class too.
Pilates is my safe space.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve overcome?
My pain I experienced from doing exercise. I used to attend a gym which would aggravate my chronic conditions (Endometriosis and PCOS) due to being high impact. Pilates was noticeably different for me as I was no longer experiencing debilitating pain which caused me to have time off work every time I exercised. I was able to gain strength and tone from doing low impact exercise (Pilates) and felt so good in myself knowing I was able to do something without it ending horribly.
What are you most proud of?
How far I have come since starting Pilates. I started back in 2019 in preparation for my wedding in 2020 and then never left. The strength and flexibility I’ve gained from Pilates is phenomenal and it’s totally noticeable how much good it does my body when I’ve had to take periods of time off from classes.
What does “being healthy” mean to you?
To me being healthy isn’t all about diet and exercise. I’m a massive advocate for mental health and taking care of our mental state (so much so that I did a graduate certificate in perinatal mental health last year).
Between studying, my family and my job, it didn’t leave me feeling like I had time to do anything for myself. Once I started at Move, it became my ‘me’ time. The time during my day that I was doing something solely for myself to get out of doing the same thing day-in and day-out.
What’s your pearl of wisdom for someone to overcome times when looking after themselves is not always easy
Going between work and the kids is so draining and some days I really have to hype myself up to go to class, but I always feel so much better for it. Knowing that I’ve made my effort, for myself, that day. The quote I live by is ‘There’s no right time, there’s just time and what you choose to do with it’.
How has Pilates with Move helped you in your Journey?
Pilates is my safe space.
I no longer experience the anxiety I used to when exercising, thinking people were watching me and judging me. Move is so welcoming of any gender, people from all walks of life and of any body type. The girls’ words of encouragement throughout class keep me going and there’s always layers to the exercises to cater for however I might be feeling on the day.
